Published in 1942, while the war was still in progress, this book recounts many stirring incidents from the lives of members of the RAAF. It is the first instalment of a history of the RAAF in WWI.
It is the story of a new and amazing breed of men, most of them little more than boys, whose industry in the air and on the ground is steadily weaving the splendid pattern which, although yet unfinished, has caused the world to turn its head in wonder.
Chapters include: U-boat hunters, against Rommel, Syrian triumph, desert dogfighters, Ambon outpost, and twenty scalps. Also features a range of photographs supplied by the Commonwealth Department of Information, as well as illustrations.
"There is every indication that the war will be a long one, and we must prepare ourselves fully to be ready for everything; to anticipate the worst and to put all our energies into ensuring the best; to keep the offensive spirit alive and active; to study our enemy closely and be ready to strike hard at every opportunity. It will only be by persistent ruthlessness and determination that we will eventually force our will upon the enemy and attain our objective." G Jones, Air Vice-Marshal
