Alfred James Hillman (1841-1884) was the son of the Swan River Colony's Assistant Surveyor-General Alfred Hillman.
He was a banker and had been with the Western Australian Bank from its establishment. Alfred James was a meticulous diarist, recording and commenting upon every event and person in the young colony. Birth, deaths, marriages, disasters, crimes, sports and pastimes were all recorded. (book flap)
