About Us
Greetings, my name is Miriam Mortimore, and I am The Book Merchant.
I have spent over 20 years as a professional librarian managing specialist collections for government and large corporations.
As a librarian, I know how difficult it is to track down books that are published independently by local historians or were published long ago and are now out of print, mostly languishing in rubbish tips.
These books don't always appear in Google searches and can't be bought from large online booksellers. While they might loanable from your local library, you want your own copy that you can read and continuously refer to.
I wanted to bridge this gap and make these treasured books available again, so I set up my own company and online bookstore.
The books I choose to sell satisfy a Librarian’s compulsion to curate collections. All books are well-researched and written, often award-winning. They are books that I would read and select if I were building a library collection.
The Book Merchant Bookstore specialises in all aspects of Australian and Western Australian history - pre-colonial, colonial, Federation and 20th-century and the beginning of the 21st century.
I sell biographies, autobiographies and family history, local and town history, military and maritime histories, convict, bushranger and other true crimes, First Nation and immigration.
I am also an eBook publisher. Some of the books I want to sell are no longer hardcopy, so I will create eBooks so that my readers can easily access them.
Please enjoy browsing through my books.
Best regards
Miriam
