This book is a social history of the first European settlement of the North-West of Western Australia, covering 1861 to 1890, and is told through the Withnell and Hancock families. It is a story that begins with the arrival of William and Martha Withnell in the Swan River Colony. It includes the explorations of Francis Thomas Gregory and the establishment of Roebourne, the first town in the North-West in 1866.
Yeera-Muk-a-Doo is an Aboriginal name for the place where the European pioneer John Withnell built his first home in the North-West, on land that later became the townsite of Roebourne. (Foreword by Rica Erickson)
