From 1947 to 1950, John Ewers combed the North mainly on assignments for the Australian Geographical Society and the magazine Walkabout. His travels ranged from the islands of Yampi Sound to Cairns and the Atherton Tablelands. He studied Aboriginal corroborees at Delissavile, camped with Bill Harney, travelled the tracks of the Kimberleys, hitchhiked up and down the Stuart Highway and examined the colourful Centre.
