Jesse Hammond (1856-1940) was a Western Australian pioneer and author. He was appointed “Protector of Natives” for WA in 1938. He had a comprehensive knowledge of early Perth, as demonstrated by his hand-drawn maps of Perth from the 1870s. His books, Winjan’s People and Western Pioneers, made important contributions to the history of early Western Australia and provided insight into the lives of the Aboriginal people of Western Australia.
