Leslie Le Souef was born in 1900 and had a distinguished career as a surgeon in Western Australia, rising by 1938 to Command of the 13th Filed Ambulance, Western Command.
When WWII began, Le Souef was commissioned to raise and train the 2/7th Australian Field Ambulance for service with the 2nd AIF.
In 1941, while in Crete, Le Souef was captured and sent to Germany. For his work in the POW camps, he was honoured by the French and was awarded an OBE for his service in Greece and Crete. (book flap)
