Mumballup and Noggerup are located in the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup, South West Region, Western Australia. An area informally known as Upper Preston.

The first European settlement was in the 1880s. By the turn of the 20th Century, there was a thriving timber industry employing hundreds. Mumballup even had its own timber mill.

This book provides a detailed account of the history of Upper Preston, from its settlement and administration, its early setters, industries and schools. The history of the local pubs including the famous Forrest Hotel are also discussed.
