Personal story of Walter Eatts and his experience growing up disconnected from his culture and caught between two worlds
Walter's mother was a Stolen Generations survivor from the Kimberley region, and his white father was from Busselton. To prevent their children from being taken under oppressive native welfare policies, his parents fled Western Australia and raised their family in Queensland. Walter grew up completely severed from his Indigenous heritage, language, and cultureâleading to his lifelong feeling of being somewhere between.
"To the readers of my autobiography and to the thousands of our Aboriginal people who can identify with my life from childhood to adulthood and who have overcome many of the hurdles forced upon our people. This book illustrates how we, as Aboriginal people, despite all the tears, pain, suffering and discrimination our people have been forced to endure and which continues, do not have to lie down and die or give up."
