A comprehensive and colourful history of the Frontier Services.
Founded as the Australian Inland Mission by Rev. John Flynn in 1912. The first Patrol Padres were sent out in 1913 on camels and horses from Pine Creek, Beltana, Broome and Port Hedland to provide pastoral care to people in isolated properties, small communities and mining sites. Nursing clinics were established in Alice Springs, Innaminka and Birdsville.
In 1926 the Federal Methodist Inland Mission was established with Colonel Holden as its first director.
In 1928, Flynn established the Aerial Medical Service, which later became a separate organisation, the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
