In 1949, the Commonwealth War Service Land Settlement Board decided to establish 200,000 acres, 423 miles west of Mt Barker, along the Muir Highway, to be divided up into 200 farms for settlement by returned soldiers. Part of this area was called Rocky Gully, and it was enclosed within the North Franland project. (Introduction)
