The story of the successful community-owned suburban hospital operating from the leafy environs of South Terrace, South Perth, in Western Australia since 1956.
South Perth Community Hospital was established by a group known as the South Perth Community Centre Association in the aftermath of World War II, in an environment strongly influenced locally by an English academic, Professor Allan Edwards, who saw community-based groups as a way of empowering ordinary people to obtain decent local services.
The story is much more than building and operating a small hospital; it tells of those very human occurrences that become catalysts for wider events.
Foreword by Hon David Malcolm AC, Chief Justice of Western Australia.
