This is the journal of a Scottish pioneering woman in colonial Victoria. She was a portrait artist, linguist, musician and diarist.
Georgiana Huntly McCrae arrived in Sydney with her husband, Andrew McCrae, and children in March 1839. By 1842, the family had settled at Mayfield House on the Yarra River. The family moved again to Dromana in 1845.
According to her biographer Norman Cowper, Georgiana was a woman of strong character, exceptional education, wit, charm and cultivated taste, and was a significant figure in the early days of settlement in Victoria.
