James Graham (1819-1898) was one of the earliest pioneers to settle in Melbourne. He arrived in 1839 at the age of twenty and, over a period of sixty years, wrote an enormous number of lively, detailed letters which painted a vivid picture of life in the growing town.
The letters in this book cover the period from 1854 with Graham's departure on a visit to his parents in Scotland, to 1864 and his last Christmas at Bayule, Heidelberg.
