Benjamin Esmond Nicker (1908-1941), aged fifteen, crossed the Tanami Desert solo. In the 1930s, Ben took his team of camels and guided Michael Terry's Central Australian expeditions through the harsh land where both Gibson and Lasseter had perished. In WWII, Ben Nicker died in Greece. (back cover)
