Leonard Crowther (Len) Burton was born in the English Midlands and migrated to Australia in 1927. He and his family spent five years in Group Settlement 85 near Margaret River.
Despite the isolation and back-breaking work, Len Burton recalls humorous boyhood memories. "It is an absorbing story, well remembered and well written, which describes the difficulties and privations of the period but without bitterness or regret. And it conveys the pleasures and rewards of life in the bush vividly, especially from the point of view of children." Brian de Garis
