The 1832 census of the Swan River Colony, the first census ever taken in Western Australia, is a document of immense historical significance. James Stirling ordered it to be taken shortly before his departure to England in August 1832.
In editing the census, Ian Berryman collated it with other contemporary manuscript records, including passenger lists, land grant applications, other official correspondence, private letters and diaries.
Also included are brief biographical notes on the persons enumerated in the census and a list of colonists who died between June 1829 and July 1832. (back cover)
