Margaret Heseltine's story begins with her childhood on a New South Wales soldier settler's farm during the Depression.
At age 25, she took a job on a sheep station in the Kimberley. There, she taught correspondence to the manager's daughter and assisted at the station.
She later married and, with her family, settled on a "battler's block" in outback Kimberley.
