Women of Influence documents the seminal role played by women in conservative political circles. It emphasises the importance of women in upholding moral and ethical standards, in developing and implementing policies, and in educating women to become informed citizens, then voters, and ultimately, politicians and party leaders.
Conservative women in Victoria were experienced and professional political organisers well before the creation of the Liberal Party of Australia. They continued to function as a coherent unit with specific responsibilities within the Victorian Division of the Liberal Party for many years and, as such, consolidated a vital role for women in the Party.
This role has evolved particularly since the 1970s, when the loss of government federally, the feminist movement and the creation of the liberal women's forum combined to spark some fresh thinking in the Women's Section. (book flap)
