The biography of Bunbury resident Paul Vukelic, who came to Australia aboard the Centaur in October 1941. Paul's Danish mother and Yugoslav father lived in Tokyo, but as WWII political tensions rose, Paul's father organised their evacuation. Unable to go to Nazi-occupied Denmark, Paul's mother decided they should join her sister in Western Australia.
Schooled at Claremont Primary School and Hale School, Paul travelled in 1950, first to Denmark and then hitchhiking around Europe. Paul returned to Australia and, by 1956, opened a Caltex petrol station in a car dealership in Bunbury.
A successful businessman in Bunbury, Paul helped build the Bunbury Entertainment Centre and was a member of the Bunbury City Council. The Bunbury-based Vukelic Group of companies founded by Paul Vukelic has now amassed a diversified property portfolio across the State's South West.
Paul passed away in October 2023, aged 93.
