When WWII started, Harold Hill was already in the naval reserve and was immediately mobilised.
His first ship was HMAS Westralia, where he served for 20 months before transferring to the light cruiser HMAS Perth. He was on board the Perth for only three months before the Japanese sank the cruiser. He became a prisoner of war and was forced to work on the Burma Railway. (Introduction).
A very readable story of comradeship, compassion and other qualities of life.
