Bilgari Alice Smith was born at Rocklea Station in 1923. She was raised in a traditional hunter-gatherer community and married in the traditional Aboriginal way. Bilgari gave birth to and raised most of her nine children according to tribal ways.
Later in life, she moved to Roebourne, fostering fifteen children.
This is her story as told to Anna Vitenbergs and Loreen Brehaut as part of a West Pilbara Oral History Group project.
