Book Description

Secondhand. Very good condition. Minor wear to book edges and corners. CD ROM is missing. Inscribed by author.

This book is out of print and very difficult to find secondhand. It will go very quickly. As at 11:30am 6/5/25, I have two copies.

Texan-born Jack Fletcher was a veteran of the Kimberley pastoral industry. He was co-founder and managing director of the Australian Land and Cattle Company, which ran 100,000 head of cattle across seven stations during the 1970s-80s.

This book documents his experiences. He ambitiously attempts to develop a food bowl on 25,000 hectares of irrigated land at Camballin Farms. But before his dream could be realised, his $3 million levee was washed away by the floods of 1983.

Fletcher was a passionate advocate for damming the Fitzroy River. In 2018 he died aged 92.
