The Waldeck story began in 1836 with the arrival at Fremantle of two young German catechists, Fredrick Waldeck and Fredericka Kniest. They were sent to the Swan River Colony from Great Britain by the Swan River Mission. The Mission had been formed to bring Christianity to the Aboriginals of the colony.
They later married, eventually left the Mission, and took up land in the Greenough area. They experienced and overcame many hardships and established Greenough as one of the colony's finest farming regions.
This is the account of the lives of one of Western Australia's oldest pioneering families, concluding with their deaths in the early years of this century. (back cover)
