The Swan Boys Orphanage was found on land with riverfrontage at Middle Swan. It was the inheritor of the Church of England Ministry that had been established on the site from the earliest days of the Swan River Colony.

This book provides a history of changing child welfare values, ideas and methods. The reader can trace social developments in the transistion from orphanage (1868-1942), to the Swan Homes (1943-1959) and the Swanleigh Hostel (1960-1972). Roy Peterkin was director of Anglican Homes for Children from 1942 to 1959 and Swanleigh from 1960 to 1971. (Foreword)
