The family originally migrated from France to the Swan River Colony in 1829.
Edward Hester was one of the early European pioneers of the Bridgetown district, leasing land in1856. He used the land to run cattle and by 1858 bought 20 acres on one of his leaseholds, building the house which he called Blackwood Park.
