In the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, children all over Australia dropped whatever they were doing at 5:30 each afternoon and raced to the radio set for an hour of stories, songs, jokes, information and fun..
Children between the ages of 7 and 17 could join the Argonauts Club, be allotted a ship name and number and submit stories, drawings, poems and anything creative, which could be read out aloud or discussed on air. At its height in the mid-1950s, the club had over one hundred thousand members.
The Golden Age of the Argonauts is the fascinating history of a unique, much-loved radio program, a tribute to a time when life was simpler, more innocent and full of fun. (back cover)
