The story of what happened to the Smirnoff lost diamonds.
In March 1942, one of the last planes out of Java was heading for Broome, Western Australia. Just before leaving, Russian Captain Ivan Smirnoff is given a mysterious brown paper bag. Confronted by Japanese fighter planes, the Captain lands the badly damaged plane on an isolated beach in the Kimberley region. The Captain and passengers are rescued, but the mysterious paper bag is left behind on the plane.
Journalist Juliet Wills investigates what happened to the diamonds.
