In 1851, Edmund DuCane, a young lieutenant in the Royal Engineers, volunteered to go to Western Australia to overseas convict works.
He married Georgiana Molloy's daughter, Mary Dorothea, in Western Australia.
Importantly, DuCane was a talented artist who sketched settlers, ships, buildings, Indigenous Australians, and more.
