In 1851, Edmund DuCane, a young lieutenant in the Royal Engineers, volunteered to go to Western Australia to overseas convict works.
He married in Western Australia to Georgiana Molloy's daughter Mary Dorothea.
Importantly, DuCane was a talented artist and made many sketches of settlers, ships, buildings, Indigenous Australians and more.
