HMAS Perth (I) lies in waters between Java and Sumatra, a victim of the Battle of Sunda Strait in 1942. Many men in Perth were killed during the action, and others perished at sea. Many made it to the coast of Java only to be taken prisoner of war. Of the ship's company of 682, only 229 lived to return to Australia.
Ronald Mckie pieces together the accounts of individual survivors, vividly recounting the events of the battle and of the days that followed. (book flap)
