Danadaragan is a small town in the Wheatbelt Region of Western Australia. The Shire of Dandaragan is the gateway to the Coral Coast and starts just two hours north of Perth.
The history of European settlement can only be understood against a background of the geo-historical forces which shaped it. In particular, the geological structures, land formations, soil types, vegetation, drainage patterns and climate set against the parameters within human settlement occurred.
For thousands of years, the Dandaragan region was inhabited solely by Aboriginal people. While Europeans explored the coast from the early 17th Century onwards, they took until the 1840s before settling. In doing so, they tended to follow patterns of settlement adopted by Aboriginal Australians. (preface)
