This book recounts the history of the Mt Spec-Paluma area in Queensland, from the initial European exploration to the 1950s. It covers the early inhabitants, tin mining activities, the construction of the Mt Spec Tourist Road, the establishment of the state forest and national park, and the presence of American and Australian military units during World War II. The book also explores the origins of local place names and includes stories shared by Paluma residents over the years.
Old letters and diaries, official documents and the memories of early settlers and their descendants bring life and colour, as well as a sense of community, to places such as Paluma. Through meticulous research, Linda Venn demonstrates how others were attracted to Paluma during the first 80 years of European settlement.
Published by the City of Thuringowa and contains a collection of photographs.
