History of the Mt Margaret Aboriginal Mission in Western Australia, co-founded by Mysie and her husband, Rodolphe Samuel Schenk, in 1921. The missionaries aimed to provide religious teaching, education and a home for the Wongutha people.
The book explores their work between 1921 and 1953 and how they adapted missionary methods to support the local Aboriginal population who were experiencing severe cultural breakdown, land dispossession, and oppressive legislation in the Western Australian goldfields.
Includes names and photographs of the people who lived and worked at the mission, along with details on the broader United Aborigines Missions (UAM), the Warburton Mission, and the regional history of the Laverton and Warburton areas.
It also documents the infamous Government policy of die-out or breed-out, which was in place in Western Australian legislation for half a century.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers, please note that this book may contain descriptions and/or images of people who have passed away.
