This book is not an academic history. It does however provide details of all aspects of European pioneering life in the area that was first surveyed by John Septimus Roe in 1836.

Broomhall sketches the growth and maturity of the community in all its humanity, surviving drought, depression and the enemies of agriculture ranging from locusts and dingoes to emus and foxes.

This book is based on Broomhall's own experiences, interviews, newspapers, Shire and library documents. Included are photographs and original survey maps of the early European explorers.
