Bill Harney has written of his experiences living and working amongst Aboriginal people for 40 years in the Northern Territory in Arnhem Land, the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Daly River. He was a patrol officer in native administration and a guide and adviser to major scientific expeditions and helped record Aboriginal songs and rituals.
Starting in the 1930s, chapters cover the Karamalal tribe, medical superstitions, religion and tradition, canoe and inland patrols, memories from Borroloola, out west and out catfish way, amongst many others. It is considered an authentic story of contact between white men and Aborigines in the Northern Territory.
