Frost's history begins with early British settlement by a handful of pioneers in 1942. By the end of the century, the town had developed a flourishing timber industry with dairying and vegetable crops. A short-lived gold rush, 1893-1903, led to the discovery of sandstone, later used in many buildings throughout the state. The emergence of fruit orcharding is explored in detail.
