This booklet resulted from the exhibition Geraldton Then and Now shown in 1988 at the Geraldton Art Gallery by the Geraldton Camera Club for the celebration of Geraldton's city status.
Permanent settlement began in Geraldton on November 20, 1849, with the arrival of Lieutenants Elliott and Helpman, thirty soldiers and a small band of settlers. The townsite was surveyed by Augustus and Francis Gregory early in 1850, and the first structures in the town were erected in the vicinity of the three streets named after them.
Images of Geraldton in its formative period are contrasted with images of the 1980s.
