This is the story of the Nairn family's early years in Western Australia and New Zealand. William Nairn and his wife, Mary Ann, and their four children arrived at the Swan River Colony aboard the Marquis of Anglesea in August 1829.
William and Mary Ann's daughter, Charlotte, married Walter Padbury in 1844. The fortunes of the Nairn family are intertwined with those of Padbury, who was to become a successful pastoralist, merchant, and philanthropist.
The author John Nairn is not related to William Nairn.
