Cathedral and Community follows the fortunes of St George's Cathedral through over 170 years of Western Australia's history, as it moved from the 'Rush Church' to the Court House, to 'old St George's' and finally to its present home.
Throughout these years, the cathedral community reflected the experience of the wider society through periods of struggle and prosperity, war and depression, and the challenges posed by an increasingly secular and multicultural society.
Located near the heart of Perth's Central Business District and opposite Government House and Council House, the St George's community has offered its home as a focus of civic, state and national celebrations, forged links with a multitude of community groups and organizations and shared its cultural and educational resources with the society at large.
Never far from controversy, it has, over the years, made a considerable mark on the city, which is its home. (book flap)
