The Canning Stock Route is a place of living history, especially so for the modern day urban dweller with a sense of pride for the achievements of the early European explorers of Western Australia. Among the people who explored the region of the Canning Stock Route were John and Alexander Forrest, Ernest Giles, Frank Hann, Major Peter Warburton, David Carnegie, Augustus Gregory, and the two cousins Lawrence and Charles Wells.
Alfred Wernam Canning, leader of the stock route survey and Well Construction Party, was a born leader of men. He was a man of determination with the will to win through and finish any job he undertook. If it had not been for his effort, we would not be following his path today.
The Stock Route that bears his name is part of Australia's heritage that belongs to all of us. (Introduction)
This guide provides a complete outline of the Canning Stock Route. There are comprehensive sections covering all aspects of the route, from choosing your travelling companions to overcoming emergencies.
