In volume two, Fran Taylor profiles many of the original European settlers and their families who came together to create Bridgetown as a community centre.
Initially, the Warren and Blackwood areas were settled by pastoralists, who by the nature of their lifestyles, were relatively isolated. Their nearest trading centres were Australind and Albany. Produce and stock needed to be driven long distances over rough terrain to reach market.
With the agricultural development and the mining ventures of the late 1800s in Western Australia, the region soon became the food bowl of the state, and for some years, Bridgetown was the primary social centre for the Warren Blackwood district. (back cover)
