Jessie Ackermann was an American temperance and women's rights advocate, who as an international missionary for the World's Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) spent several years in Australia as an organiser and social reformer.

This book is the first book-length study of Australian women (http://www.womenaustralia.info/leaders/biogs/WLE05...), written at the turn of the century when more and more Australian women were developing points of view and challenging the prevailing laws and social conditions in Australia.
