Ernest Shackleton's Nimrod expedition to the Antarctic from 1907 to 1909, saw the first ascent of Mt Erebus, and the location of the South Magnetic Pole.
During the expedition, the Shackleton team travelled within 100 miles of the South Pole and wrote, designed, illustrated and bound a book recording its exploits. Hand bound with twine, less than one hundred copies of Aurora Australis were produced.
