In 1791, Captain George Vancouver (1757-1798) discovered and named landmarks, including King George III Sound, Princess Royal Harbour, Point Possession, and many others, with names still used by all who live in or visit Albany.
Captain Matthew Flinders (1774-1814), who is well known for circumnavigating Australia, charted and surveyed Princess Royal Harbour and Oyster Harbour.
