Osvaldo Bonutto landed in Sydney as a young Italian migrant on a hot Christmas Eve in 1924, with little money, but with courage and determination. After sporadic work in NSW, he moved to Queensland working as a timber-getter and cane cutter. He became a successful hotelier and pioneered the tobacco industry in the Texas-Inglewood area.
Despite his contribution and commitment to Australia, he was interned during WWII.
