On 19 March 1907, Modesto Varischetti was trapped by water in a mine shaft at Bonnievale in Western Australia. Nine days later he was rescued.
This book tells how the mine was flooded, how Modesto responded to the ordeal, and of the efforts to save him. It also tells of the relations between the Aussies and the Italians of the goldfields. (publisher blurb)
