The Brig Amity sailed into King George Sound on Christmas Day 1826, carrying men to establish the first British settlement in Western Australia - a settlement that became the town of Albany.
The new Amity, a full scale and authentic reproduction of the original vessel was built and berthed within a few metres of where those first pioneers stepped ashore. Few towns can boast such a fitting memorial.
Author Les Johnson is a journalist, historian and former seaman, long resident in the Albany district. (back cover)
