This book is about a modern pioneer settlement in one of Western Australia's easternmost agricultural districts. It is very much a geographical history in which people and places interact one upon the other. It is the story of how people learn to cope with a new and unfamiliar farming environment and the process learn about themselves.

The heart of the book lies in material collected from more than two hundred interviews conducted by Audry Webb.

It is also a story about how a community is created out of families and how they cope with the vagaries of weather and climate and of the demands of distant markets, a micro-cosmic view of the development of modern extensive grain-growing in WA, throwing new light on the hardships and difficulties of farming, as well as telling of its successes and joys (book jacket).
