Jimmy Woods was one of the pioneers and legends of Australian aviation.
In 1924, after service in the RAF, Jimmy joined the fledgling Western Australian Airways as a pilot on its north-west service and later established the east-west run between Perth and Adelaide. During this time he took part in a number of daring searches and rescues including that for Charles Kingsford Smith.
In 1933 Jimmy made an attempt on the record for a solo flight from Australia to England and a year later was a participant in The Great Race.
