Frost's history begins with early British settlement by a handful of pioneers in 1942. By the end of the century, the town had developed a flourishing timber industry with dairying and vegetable crops. A short-lived goldrush, 1893-1903, led to the discovery of sandstone, later used in many buildings throughout the state. The emergence of fruit orcharding is explored in detail.
This history of Donnybrook was written in 1976 by retired local government councillor and president Alan Frost.
